Carp fishing rods

When choosing a carp rod, look at four specifications: length, test curve, action and number of sections. Twelve- and thirteen-foot rods are used when extra distance and line control from the bank are needed. Nine- and ten-foot models take up less room, handle well in confined swims and are practical when placing the rig from a boat. They are not rods reserved for young anglers or small fish.

The test curve, stated in pounds, describes how the blank loads; it is not the maximum casting weight. Also check the lead weight recommended by the manufacturer, guide size, reel seat and packed length. Spombing and marker work require dedicated rods built for that load.
