Choose the main line by diameter, breaking strain, abrasion resistance, stretch and behaviour in the water. Monofilament provides some stretch and is easy to handle. Braid has very little elongation and transmits bottom contact and bites more directly, but it requires checking the fishery rules and protecting the rig where necessary. Fluorocarbon is used for specific purposes because of its density and resistance to rubbing, not as a universal solution.
