Baiting needles are chosen by function, length, diameter, tip shape and closure type. A thin needle for soft baits doesn't work the same way as one designed for hard boilies, PVA mesh or leadcore.

Check that the closure grips the loop without tearing the material and that the handle lets you control pressure. Don't force a needle that's too thick or use a damaged tip.
